THANK YOU SUNAPEE!!

The Covid-19 virus has created more than a stir. But, thanks to everyone in the Sunapee area, the Sunapee Food Pantry has been able to keep up with demand.
The Pantry is currently available 24 hours a day in the foyer at the Town Office. With the extended hours and increased need the residents, businesses and organizations of this town have really stepped up to the task of filling the pantry with necessary items. We are still a little low on instant potatoes, rice, bread & muffin mix, canned meats and canned fruit but we’re all set on snacks for a little while.
When everything began to fall apart in March Mindy (and the Friends of the Abbott Library) immediately stepped in to offer recyclable grocery bags to distribute food to families in need. Then, when we got the news that we could not recycle the bags, the Sunapee Police Benevolent Association jumped into action to provide hundreds more. Most recently the Sunapee Fire Department donated 2 additional cases of bags as well. How great!
The police were also instrumental in acquiring and delivering Easter dinners to families in Town. The Appleseed Restaurant and Catering did a tremendous job providing many meals to area families and our Safety Services performed the deliveries.
Also, how fortunate we are to live in a town where the schools are delivering food and supplies to anyone who feels uncomfortable going out. Each week a school bus is loaded with everything from food to diapers. We have even been able to supply families with hard to get items like paper towels and toilet paper due to the generosity of several individuals and businesses – such as Dexter’s Inn.
It’s impossible to recognize everyone and often people prefer to remain anonymous. However, I would like to publicly thank Widmer & Davis Distillery for their huge donation of snacks & chips as well as for keeping the town staff safe with homemade hand sanitizer. Thanks also go out to Mt Sunapee Resort for several cases of granola bars and the NH Charitable Foundation’s Harkins Family Trust for their contributions to the Sunapee Food Pantry. The Sunapee United Methodist Church has been keeping all of the little ones clean and dry in diapers, wet wipes, food and lotions. Hannaford Supermarket in New London has, once again, included us in their Fight Hunger bag program and Sugar River Bank has made both cash and grocery card donations to help keep a continuous flow of food and supplies to those who need it most.
I apologize if I have missed anyone and there are a LOT of individuals who have helped out immensely! We are so lucky that there are so many who care so much for all of their friends and neighbors.

THANK YOU SUNAPEE!!
