Sunapee Fire Department Press Release
April 26, 2023
12:05 PM

Early morning, 26 April 2023, a fire broke out at a condo in Sunapee’s Granliden four-season resort community. Upon arriving on the scene, Assistant Chief Dana Ramspott and the Sunapee Fire Department found a fully involved unit on fire.

Assistant Chief Ramspott quickly called for additional support recognizing the magnitude of the fire and the potential of the fire spreading to attached condos and other buildings in the resort. With a very aggressive frontal attack, fire crews were able to contain the fire to the original condo. Over 35 firefighters from 8 towns responded to help Sunapee Fire Department fight the flames and bring the fire under control minimizing damage to other units and buildings on the property.

After a quick and aggressive knockdown of the fire by Sunapee Firefighters and mutual aid departments, the fire was contained to only one unit. Sunapee Fire took the time after the fire was extinguished to board up the affected condos to prevent further property loss/damage due to weather.

Thank you, Sunapee Fire Department, for your tireless work to keep our community safe. We are grateful to crews from New London Fire, Newbury Fire, Springfield Fire, Goshen Fire, Grantham Fire, Croydon Fire, and Newport Fire. We would also like to thank New London Hospital EMS for standing by at the fire scene providing EMS support for the entire incident. Your partnership is an invaluable part of our community! We appreciate all you do!

The Sunapee Department would also like to thank Mark Usko for coming out early in the morning and offering his assistance with a excavator to help fully extinguish the fire.

The fire is currently under investigation by the NH State Fire Marshal's Office and the Sunapee Police Department.

Respectfully,
Fire Chief
John Galloway
