Use of Fire Blanket

On July 09, 2023, the Town of Sunapee Fire Department is hosting a training at the Sunapee Highway Garage. The teams will be training in the use of a fire blanket to extinguish a burning vehicle.

If you see smoke coming from the Highway Garage, do not be alarmed. Fire department staff will be on site controlling the burn as they train on the use of a fire blanket to extinguish a small car fire. 

A fire blanket is a specialized sheet of fabric that is highly heat and fire-resistant and does not allow oxygen to pass through its finely woven fabric. Combining these two features means a fire-retardant blanket can be excellent at smothering small incipient fires for people trained in their use.
