Sunapee Announces New Town Manager

On Monday, October 4, the Sunapee Board of Selectmen confirmed Shannon Martinez as the next Town Manager. Starting October 14th,2021, Martinez will serve as Assistant Town Manager taking over from long-serving Town Manager, Donna Nashawaty, on November 6th, 2021. “Sunapee is a wonderful town, and it is a great honor to be chosen as its Town Manager”, said Martinez. “There is much to love and
admire about our town, including its loyal and steadfast employees and I am proud to be joining them. I am looking forward to being part of the continued growth of our community.”
Martinez brings with her more than 18 years of experience in international development. She is a seasoned senior operations management professional, with extensive experience in field program operations within the humanitarian assistance and conflict negotiations sector. She is touted for commitment to community engagement, a passion for mentoring up-and-coming talent, and for building strong teams.
 “Ms. Martinez is a proven, inspiring visionary, and compassionate leader who is well prepared to embrace the challenges and opportunities today and ahead for Sunapee,” said Josh Trow, Board of Selectmen Chair. 
Recruitment for the position placed a focus on finding a consensus builder who could partner with staff and the community to carry out the town’s strategic goals.
The Board of Selectmen brought three final candidates forward from the applicant pool after several rounds of screenings and interviews. Those three candidates participated in interviews with the Board of Selectmen, senior staff, and community members. Martinez was chosen as the final candidate. 

She has made Sunapee her home, when not travelling, since 2006. She holds a BA in English and Communications from the University of Denver and MA in Globalization Studies from Dartmouth College.
