INTRODUCTION
The Town of Sunapee has applied for funds through the State of New Hampshire Department of
Environmental Services Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), in accordance with Env-Dw 1100.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Sunapee Water & Sewer Commission serves water to approximately 1,680 people through 507 service connections. The system currently operates a surface water treatment system, with source water influent from Lake Sunapee. For the past few years, the water system has experienced elevated levels of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in the water distribution system.
This project includes ultraviolet light (UV) disinfection improvements to mitigate disinfection byproducts in accordance with Administrative Order by Consent No. 19-031 WD. This project includes installation of a UV system and associated controls. Improvements will also be made to filter effluent control valves for better process control. This project will take place within the footprint of the existing building. The project will result in improved water quality.
Whereas the project constitutes only a minor project where all work will take place on existing facilities where no new disruption of the environment will occur, such as correction of leakage, replacement of pipes in existing rights of way, or replacement or addition of equipment or small new structures on an existing site, a Categorical Exclusion (CE) is proposed.
PUBLIC REVIEW
The Sunapee Water and Sewer Commission voted to authorize funding in the amount of $400,000 for this project on March 10, 2020. A public notice will be published by the Sunapee Water & Sewer Commission and a 30-day public comment period held in accordance with Env-DW 1100. Comments will be accepted through January 1, 2021; the public comment period will end 1/1/2021.
