The Current Status of the Town Assistance

Hello from the Town of Sunapee Welfare Office. I would like to update everyone about what is available the current status of the Town Assistance.
As of March 17, 2020, Governor Sununu has prohibited evictions, foreclosures, internet, electric disconnections and the denial of heating fuel based on non-payment due to the Covid-19 emergency. The Governor also extended immediate access to unemployment benefits for workers and self-employed who have lost jobs due to the Covid-19 virus. This also includes aide to those who need to self-quarantine as well as those who need to stay home to care for young children who have lost child care or are out of school. Please contact New Hampshire Employment Security at; www.nhes.nh.gov or 603-271-7700 to apply for those benefits if you believe that you may qualify.
In an attempt to reduce person-to-person contact, we are asking that any resident who needs financial help at this time to call Laura at 603-369-9896 Monday through Friday during regular Town Office hours with any needs or concerns. Please leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.
Food pantry items may be picked up in the foyer of the Town Office at any time. We will try to make accommodations for any resident who cannot make it into the Town Office. Simply call 603-369-9896.
Anyone wishing to donate to the food pantry is welcome to drop off items in the foyer as well. Grocery gift cards will be happily accepted in lieu of cash and can be dropped in the white lockbox in the foyer.
The Welfare Office, library, schools and police have been working together to ensure that children and families in need will not go hungry. The schools will be supplying meals to families with children who participate in the free and reduced meal programs. Also, any families that request additional assistance will receive goods from the town’s food pantry on a weekly basis – to be delivered at the same time as the school’s meals.
Senior citizens and those with disabilities are reminded that Meals On Wheels delivers meals Monday - Friday. They can be reached at 603-863-3177.

The State of NH also has a general help line. Call 2-1-1 or go online to  www.211nh.org  for information regarding the Corona Virus and a variety of public and private assistance resources.
