David P. Cahill, Chief of Police. Chief Cahill is a graduate of The New Hampshire Police Academy and The Command Training Program from the New England Institute of Law Enforcement at Babson College. Chief Cahill started his career in 1987 as a Bradford Police Officer, where he served the Town of Bradford for 2 years. In 1989, he moved to the Hillsborough Police Department where he spent 13 years and achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant. Chief Cahill is a pistol, rifle, and shotgun instructor and a New Hampshire Police Prosecutor. Chief Cahill has worked undercover with the New Hampshire Attorney General's Drug Task Force. The Chief serves as the fiscal manager and administrator and is accountable for the effective delivery of police services to the community of Sunapee.
Lieutenant E. Neill Cobb was hired by the Sunapee Police Department in 2004 as a full-time officer. Sergeant Cobb is full-time certified and continues to serve the Town of Newbury, New Hampshire part-time since 1998. Sergeant Cobb was born and raised in the local area attending the Sunapee School District. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont. Sergeant Cobb resides in Sunapee.
Sergeant Timothy Puchtler was hired by the Sunapee Police Department in 2006 as a full-time officer. Tim was promoted to Sergeant as of August 2, 2012 and his additional duties will include that of police prosecutor for the department and work on criminal investigations. Tim moved to Sunapee from Methuen Massachusetts with his wife and daughter in May of 2003. He graduated from Methuen High School in 1988 and then continued his education attending Northeastern University. He owns and operates The Harbor House in Sunapee and also works for Victory Hill Contracting as a carpenter. He enjoys coaching basketball and currently is one of the coaches for the Kearsarge Varsity Girls basketball team.
Officer Timothy N. Therrien joined the Sunapee Police Department in October of 2008 as a part-time patrolman and was sworn in as a full-time officer in June of 2009. Officer Therrien previously worked as a part-time patrolman in the Town of Merrimack for one year and prior to that, as a Marine Patrol Officer for one year. Officer Therrien was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and moved to New Hampshire 14 years ago. Tim is working towards an Associate's degree in criminal justice and graduated from the New Hampshire Full-Time Police Academy in April, 2010. Tim resides in Newbury.
Officer Noah Gooch was sworn in as a full-time officer in August of 2017. Officer Gooch previously worked as a part-time patrolman for the Town of Grafton, NH. He is a graduate of the New Hampshire Full-time Police Academy and resides in Sunapee.
Officer Courtney Heath joined the Sunapee Police Department in August of 2009. Officer Heath has 10 years of experience as a police officer and resides with his wife and two sons in Springfield, New Hampshire. Officer Heath is a part-time patrolman.
Officer Edward Shaughnessy joined the Sunapee Police Department in October, 2012 as a part-time police officer. He is presently a full-time officer at the Bradford Police Department where he has worked since 2005 and has recently been promoted to the position of Detective. Officer Shaughnessy is a DARE Officer and also coaches youth football for the Kearsarge School District. In addition, he is a member of the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit. Ed resides with his wife in the Town of Bradford.
Officer Jeffrey Reed has been with Sunapee Police Department since 1991 as a part-time police officer and then appointed as a full-time officer since 1994. Officer Reed was born and raised in the Claremont area where he was a graduate from Stevens High School. Officer Reed currently works part-time for the Sunapee Police Department and full-time in his family's business. Jeff, his wife and two daughters live in Sunapee.
Officer Peter Brigham joined the Sunapee Police Department in June of 2016 as a part-time police officer. He previously worked as a part-time police officer for the Town of Boscawen from 1990 to 2001 and worked 3 seasons with the New Hampshire Marine Patrol. Peter has a B.S. degree from the University of Maine, A.S. degree in Criminal Justice from NHTI and an M.S. degree in Human Services from Springfield College. Peter has 23 years of experience working with youth as the Director of Youth Services in Laconia and Hillsboro, and he volunteers his time as a CASA Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children. Peter is an avid runner who has completed over 30 marathons, including the Boston Marathon 7 times.
Officer Nicholas Boisvert joined the Sunapee Police Department in October of 2017 as a part-time police officer. He is certified in the State of New Hampshire as a part-time officer, and prior to coming to Sunapee, was an officer with New Hampshire Marine Patrol. He currently lives in Manchester, NH and is a full-time student at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester studying Homeland Security and psychology.
Officer Joseph Merullo was sworn in as a part-time officer in December of 2018. He is a graduate of the Criminal Justice program at New Hampshire Technical Institute. He will be attending the New Hampshire Part-Time Police Academy in February of 2019 and is currently working in the police department's Field Training Program. Officer Merullo resides in Sutton, NH.
Josh Levasseur was hired in June of 2016 and he will be working in a civilian position in Sunapee Harbor during the busy summer months. He will be monitoring boat launch traffic as well as pedestrian traffic. Josh graduated from Sunapee Middle High School and will be attending the New Hampshire Technical Institute in the fall where he will be studying criminal justice. Josh resides in Springfield, NH.
