Sunapee Sestercentennial events are getting closer!  As we get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Sunapee’s founding, the Committee has been planning many events.   We need to start by thanking Sugar River Savings Bank for a very generous donation of $750 to help offset the expenses of the celebration events.

Several town committees and organizations are also planning events during the August 17-19 celebration weekend.  There will be some events earlier in the summer to provide information and help build some excitement for the celebration.

A group of Sunapee quilters, lead by Becky Rylander, has completed a Sunapee history quilt.   It has been hung at the Sunapee Historical Society Museum, ready for viewing beginning on Friday evening (June 8th) during the "Spring Into Summer" festivities.  The museum will be open from 1-4 on Saturdays and Sundays through June and then more in July and August.  Starting in the next couple of weeks, with the help of the Sunapee DPW crew and cooperation of Project Sunapee you will see 74 sponsorship banners going up around Town.

On Saturday August 18, among many events planned, will be the Sestercentennial parade.  Confirmed in the parade so far are the Kearsarge Community Band, the Bektash Shriner go-karts, local favorite Leaping Lena, all the apparatus from the Sunapee fire department to include Sunapee and Georges Mills' original fire “trucks” as well as some privately owned antique fire trucks, and the Sunapee Police Department.  Fred Gallup will be operating the Historical Society’s antique steam roller.  All town organizations, neighborhood associations, businesses, families, public services agencies and others are invited to join us.  Please download the parade registration form from the website

For the summer folks coming back to town, you can stop by the Town Clerk’s office or Police Station to purchase your Sunapee 250 license plate for your car.  If your car is registered to a Sunapee address you can replace you front plate with the commemorative plate.  You can get a Sunapee 250 window decal at the library and a limited edition commemorative granite arrowhead designed and crafted by the Stocker Family at Sunapee Graniteworks.  All commemorative items can also be purchased at the 250th Website store.

Please check the website for a calendar of all the celebration events.
